Did you know? Richard Melman, the owner of R.J. Grunts in Chicago, claims he added potato skins to his menu after hearing a story on the about sailors eating potato skins to stay healthy. However, TGI Fridays claims that a cook in 1974 fried potato peels after being assigned to make mashed potatoes. The cook then tossed the fried skins with cheese, bacon, and TGI Fridays' special seasoning resulting in the first potato skins sold.
