Taste of History: Founded in 1861 by Lewis Dubois Bassett, a Quaker schoolteacher, Bassetts Ice Cream in Philadelphia, PA has a rich history as being the oldest ice cream company in the United States! Bassett's passion for making ice cream began in his own backyard in Salem, New Jersey, where he perfected his recipes and techniques. As his popularity grew, he began selling his delicious creations at farmer's markets in Philadelphia, before opeing the very first ice cream shop in America. It's still open to this day.
